Homunculi are lab-engineered fetus-like creatures created by the humanoids of Polis.

Background

In contrast to the race of humanoids born from the Genesis Wall as well as the moldmen, homunculi are all physically identical and are grown by the Polis denizens. The only natural physical differences between them are caused by the containers each one is grown in, affecting the shape of their bodies when they are fully developed. The homunculi, apparently when not allowed to fully develop and emerge from their containers, were consumed by the denizens of Polis as an incredibly potent psychedelic to raise their consciousnesses to a higher state.

Homunculi yearned for power and into an attempt to take over the Polis, rebelled and started engineering Cyborgs to fight the opposing faction.

Physical characteristics

Homunculi almost resemble fetuses with large heads bigger than their small torsos, with minimal facial muscles that makes recognizing their emotions difficult, while possessing small blood-red eyes, two small holes in place of their noses, and external teeth without lips. They had short thin limbs with cloven feet and three digits of spike-like fingers. They are protected by a shell, in which they're created.

Subspecies

The homunculi represent as "living batteries", but instead of coming in typical battery sizes (AA, AAA, D, etc.) they can be separated by their shape:

  • Large-size - The highest-staged homunculi.
  • Medium-size - The middle-staged homunculi.
  • Small-size - The lower-staged homunculi.

Ingame appearance

The homunculi debut in Act V, the final chapter of Scorn. However only three small-sized homunculi variants are seen.

Development notes

  • Their body shape design is referenced after "plucked, bleached, raw chickens".[1]
  • The homunculi's cyborg-engineering skills was compared to that of the garage car mechanics.[1]
